United Voices – Advocacy for people with learning
disabilities
United
Voices is a charity that is led by its members. They are all people with
learning difficulties who live in East Berkshire. We provide independent
advocacy services to members and others, throughout East Berkshire by the
provision of an advocacy service that empowers and enables them to make
independent decisions that improve the quality of their lives. In addition to
the member led services, United Voices also provides a Citizen’s Advocacy
service. in which the trained advocate develops a one to one
relationship with a client in order to resolve a particular issue or problem.
OUR MISSION
Our
mission is to become an advocacy service of first choice for people with
learning difficulties in East Berkshire and to be instrumental in empowering
them to use self and peer advocacy to promote their independence.
HOW
ARE WE ORGANISED
We
have 3 major groups in Slough, Windsor and Maidenhead, and Bracknell where
members learn to speak up for themselves and their peers. Each group has a
full-time development leader to assist the members to meet their objectives and
to provide additional advocacy services.
WHERE
ARE WE
United
Voices has small offices in Slough and in Bracknell but members, staff and
volunteers work throughout the local areas of East Berkshire. We are
actively recruiting and training volunteers so that we can extend the service
to meet more of the needs of the community.
